Amazon could be working on as many as six new mobile products that would help the company wage war against the iPad and Android-powered tablets such as Google?s newly launched Nexus 7 tablet.
Demos Parneros, president of U.S. Retail for Staples Inc, a US-based office supply company which sells the Kindle Fire, told Reuters ?Amazon is to introduce up to five or six tablet SKUs, or stock-keeping units.?
Parneros said one of the devices Amazon is working on is a larger 10? Kindle tablet.
?It's not clear yet whether these will all be distinctly different models; it wouldn't surprise us if several of these SKUs were merely different storage capacities for the new Kindle Fire models,? said The Verge.
Over the last few months numerous technology blogs have suggested that Amazon is working on new devices. BGR added to the speculation in June with a report that said Amazon has both a new and improved 7? Kindle Fire tablet and a bigger 10? tablet in the works.
Last week both The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg published reports saying Amazon was testing a smartphone that could go on sale by the end of the year.
In other tablet news Research In Motion is rumored to be launching a 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook tablet on July 31 for $550.
