Home wrecked as golf cart stolen

A golf cart and antique silverware were stolen from an Eastland Avenue home left in "shambles" this week, Shelbyville police said Wednesday.

Virtually everything in the home was ransacked or damaged, including medicine strewn across the bathroom floor and a waterbed punctured, while the victim was away Monday night and Tuesday, officer Tory Moore's report said.

The victim and two neighbors sat outside waiting for a possible repeat burglary and saw three men running through the back yard of a nearby home and get into a waiting vehicle, described as possibly a gray Chevrolet sedan, police said.

Sold for scrap

A man stole a car belonging to his brother's girlfriend and sold it to a recycling firm in Lebanon, police said.

Christopher Allen Silcox allegedly said he was taking the car to a store Sunday afternoon and would return it to the owner's North Main Street residence in 10 minutes, officer David Dye was told.

Silcox called Monday saying someone had stolen the car while he was looking for two replacement tires after having an accident, police said.

The victim said she called junkyards and wrecker services Tuesday and discovered it had been sold for scrap.

Surveillance video shows Silcox at the recycling firm and his Tennessee identification was copied by an employee, police said.

Silcox has been charged with theft of property over $1,000.
